There are different useful ways of preventing online plagiarism. One of them is referencing which is basically the process of referencing the sources of the information you have borrowed from other authors and sources. The three main styles of referencing are works cited, references, and bibliography. These three styles are discussed below.

    Works Cited

The first style of referencing that will be discussed in this article is the works cited. This referencing style is used when the citation style used is the Modern Language Association or MLA style of referencing. The works cited section of a paper contains all sources used for the paper which are alphabetically arranged according to the last name of the authors or the name of the websites.

    References

Just like works cited, references is also one style of referencing. This referencing style is used when the citation style used is the American Psychological Style or APA style of citation. The references section of a paper also contains all sources used for the paper which are also alphabetically arranged according to the last names of the authors or the names of te websites if internet sites are used for the paper.

    Bibliography

The third style of referencing is the bibliography. The bibliography is used when both sources that appear within the text and those that do not actually appear on the text are used for the paper. The bibliography is also alphabetically arranged according to the last names of the authors of the books. Other details included in the bibliography are the names of the books, location, publisher, date, volume, and page numbers. An annotated bibliography may also be used wherein additional details about the written works are also included for each source.
